Visitor Pavilion

The Bower Studio had been in conversation with the Wuggubun homeland community for nearly a year and were impressed by the elders’ efforts to welcome travellers into their small community to admire the impressive landscape and enjoy the spring fed stream that runs through the valley. During the dry season, May through to October, visiting tourists are invited to make camp and are asked to help pay a modest fee to contribute to Wuggubun’s economy.

While larger plans to redevelop the infrastructure facilities are underway there is an immediate need for a pavilion where residents can great visitors. Over the last year a lightweight camping gazebo has been used for shelter during the tourist season, but this gazebo gets knocked down by the wind and while the low ceiling does provide some shade, it remains hot below.

The new steel pavilion reinforces the colours and beauty of the natural landscape, and the roof is covered with pandanus leaves to contribute towards a cooler microclimate below. The seating, table and vertical screening provide a place for people to interact, access information about the campground and walks, and access the internet for the payment of campground fees.
